Practise for the 2025 US citizenship civics test, which USCIS gives to people who file Form N-400 on or after 20 October 2025.

The real test is oral: the officer asks 20 questions from a list of 128, and you need 12 right. This free practice test asks 20 multiple choice questions. It is unofficial practice.

How does this practice work?

Each practice test asks 20 multiple choice questions, one at a time, drawn fresh from the whole bank. You choose an answer, press Check my answer, read the reason, and move on.

When you reach the end, the result shows your score and lists the questions you missed, with the right answer for each. It never repeats your wrong pick.

The pass mark in this practice test is 12 of 20, the same figure USCIS gives for the 2025 civics test. The result says so beside your score, and it never says whether you would pass the real one. The practice test is a way to find the gaps in what you know, not a forecast.

On the day, the civics test is spoken. An officer asks the questions aloud, you answer aloud, and the officer stops as soon as you have 12 right or 9 wrong.

Here you pick from four answers, so use the Listen button to hear each question, and say your answer out loud before you choose. Some questions have several accepted answers, and the reason after each one lists them. Reading, writing and speaking English are a separate part of the naturalization test, and this page does not cover them.

The questions and the accepted answers are the USCIS list of 128 questions for the 2025 test. The three wrong answers and the short reason on every question are our own words.

Eight of the 128 questions are left out of this practice. The right answer depends on who holds an office or where you live, and it changes with elections and appointments.

For those, USCIS says to use the name of the official serving on the day of your interview. It keeps a page of current answers. For the capital of your state, use the USA.gov list of states and territories.

There are three ways to practise. The Practice test of 20 draws a new set every time. Practice by topic keeps you in one part of the list.

The topics are principles of government, system of government, rights and responsibilities, colonial period and independence, the 1800s, recent American history, symbols, and holidays.

Flashcards show a question, then reveal every accepted answer when you ask, and you mark whether you knew it. Use the list under the button to change the way before your first answer, or on the result screen.

This page is for the 2025 test only. People who filed Form N-400 before 20 October 2025 take the 2008 civics test. It has its own list of 100 questions and is not on this page yet.

Rules and lists change, so check the USCIS page that says which test you take before you rely on anything here. We read the USCIS pages on 17 October 2026 and check them again every quarter.

Questions people ask

Is this the official USCIS test?

No. EasySay is unofficial practice and is not part of USCIS or any government. The questions and accepted answers come from the list USCIS publishes. The wrong answers and the reasons are ours, and the questions an officer asks on the day are chosen by the officer.

Which civics test will I take, the 2008 or the 2025?

It depends on when you filed Form N-400. The 2025 test is for people who filed on or after 20 October 2025, and this page covers only that test. The 2008 test is for people who filed before that date, with 100 questions, up to 10 asked and 6 right to pass.

How many questions do I need to get right?

On the real 2025 test, USCIS asks 20 questions from the list of 128, and 12 right answers pass. The officer stops when you reach 12 right or 9 wrong. This practice test uses 12 of 20 as its pass mark so you can compare, but it never gives a verdict on your test.

Why are some of the 128 questions missing?

Eight questions have answers that change with elections or appointments, or with where you live, such as the name of an official. Any name we stored would soon be wrong. For those, USCIS says to give the name of whoever serves at your interview and publishes current answers on its test updates page.
