How we write our questions
By EasySay. Published . Updated .
EasySay writes its own questions and examples from facts in official sources.
It shows each source with its licence and the date it was last checked. A person reads the sensitive pages before they go live. EasySay is unofficial: no government approves it, and its practice is not the official test.
Written for EasySay, in our own words.
Where the facts come from
Facts about a citizenship test come only from the official source for that country:
- the Department of Home Affairs for Australia
- GOV.UK for the United Kingdom
- US Citizenship and Immigration Services for the United States
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for Canada
EasySay is not part of any of them.
We read the source, take the fact, and write our own words. We do not copy government wording that is under Crown or Commonwealth copyright. We name the source instead, so you can read it yourself.
Every source we use

How often we check again
Every source has a date for its next check. For facts about a citizenship test the aim is every three months. A page is also checked again straight away if its words change, because an old check does not cover new words.
How a question is written
- We read the official source and note the fact.
- We write the question and its answers in our own words. Wrong answers are ones a learner might really choose.
- We write one or two plain sentences that say why the right answer is right.
- A person reads the question against the source again before it goes live.
Three levels of checking
Not every page needs the same care. The more a mistake could matter to you, the more people look at it.
Level 1: a person reads every word against the source.
Covers: Facts about citizenship tests, advice about workplaces and interviews, and judgements about a word (how rude it is, how formal, where it is used).
Nothing in this group goes live until a person has recorded the check. If the words change, the check no longer counts and it is done again.
Level 2: a person who speaks the language reads it.
Covers: How to say a word or a name aloud.
EasySay has no pronunciation pages yet. When it does, a speaker of the language will check each one before it goes live.
Level 3: automatic checks and a sample read.
Covers: Page headings, buttons, questions people ask, and other plain wording that holds no fact about a test.
Automatic checks run on every build, and a person reads a random sample of these pages.
A page says Reviewed, with a date, only when a person has recorded that check. A page that has changed but not been read again says Updated.
What unofficial means
EasySay is not part of any government.
Our questions are practice. Doing well on them does not tell you how you would do on the real day, and it does not tell you whether you qualify. Every citizenship screen says Unofficial practice.
Check the official source before you decide anything that matters. The terms of use say more.
If you find a mistake
Tell us on the contact page. We fix confirmed mistakes and record them, with the date, on the corrections page. You can read who makes EasySay too.
